Privacy Policy
Prepared with reference to the NZ Privacy Act 2020 (13 Information Privacy Principles)
1. What we collect
- Identity and contact details: name, email, phone, date of birth (for age verification), address.
- ID verification documents for Workers (e.g. driver licence or passport image) — held only as long as needed to verify, then per our retention schedule.
- Payment information, handled by Stripe Connect — Helpers does not store full card numbers.
- Booking history, job details, ratings, and messages sent through the platform.
- Basic usage and device data (via standard analytics) and marketing attribution data (e.g. which channel a signup came from).
2. Why we collect it
- To verify identity and run ID checks before approving Worker accounts.
- To operate bookings, payments, and payouts.
- To resolve disputes between Clients and Workers.
- To meet our own legal obligations (e.g. financial record-keeping).
- To improve the platform and, where you’ve agreed, to send you marketing.
3. Who we share it with
- Stripe, for payment processing.
- Email/communication providers (Zoho, Resend, Mailchimp) for transactional and, where consented, marketing email.
- A Client and Worker matched for a job see each other’s relevant booking details (name, rough location, job details) but not full account data.
- We do not sell personal information, and we only disclose it elsewhere where the law requires it.
4. Storage and security
Data is stored with reputable NZ- or equivalent-jurisdiction-compliant providers. We take reasonable steps to keep it secure, including access controls and encryption in transit. No online system is 100% secure and we’ll tell affected users and, where required, the Privacy Commissioner if a notifiable breach occurs.
5. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it (subject to legitimate reasons we may need to retain some records, e.g. financial/tax records). Contact [email protected] to make a request.
6. Retention
We keep account and booking data for as long as your account is active plus a reasonable period afterward for legal, tax, and dispute purposes, then delete or anonymise it.
7. Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, contact us first at [email protected]. If unresolved, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
8. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time; material changes will be notified by email or in-app notice.
